The Advantages of Double Dating

Double dating is associated with the times of high school when drive thru movies, A&W restaurants and lettered jackets dotted the landscape. One couple was usually in the back seat making out while the other couple was in the front trying to look inconspicuous. Double dating is making a comeback. in a time when people aren’t completely trusting of each others intentions.

With news of date rape and cities that keep getting larger people don’t know each other as well as they did during the 50’s and 60’s. Small towns had their charm and a sense of safety that isn’t being realized in the cosmopolitan nature of most cities. With so many different kinds of people with so many different philosophies towards dating going in a group seems to be a natural solution.

Double dating is fun for both parties and relieves the overall stress of meeting new people. If you have ever went out on a date and had a hard time keeping the conversation going then you know how difficult first dates can be. However, if you go in a group there isn’t nearly as much pressure. There are plenty of people to keep things lively.

When in a group overall conversation becomes easier because there are more things to take about due to the amount of people that are talking. For example your friend might start talking about cars and both you and he can discuss this issue. In one-on-one dates cars wouldn’t normally be on the list of topics to discuss. People clam up when put on the spot.

In a one-on-one date most of the conversation focuses on the relationship the two people are developing and this can be stressful. Even if you are talking about past relationships people are still attempting to gather information about each other and their prospects. No matter where the conversation goes the conversation keeps relating back to the relationship.

Double dating also helps to protect the parties from mischief and wrong doing. With the availability of date rape drugs, predators and people who don’t have a concept of manners a double date will reduce the chance that something negative will happen. Both you and your partner can look out for each other.

In a double date it would be perfectly acceptable to meet at the place you are going to hang out. You and your friend can drive together and her and her friend can take a separate car and can meet you. Therefore, if you don’t like the date you can cut it short and get out. You and your buddy can do something else for fun. Source
