Washing Increases HIV Risk…

In uncicumcised men? Circumcision cuts the risk of HIV infections in heterosuexla men by 60 percent. Three studies in Africa, which is plagued by high rate of AIDS, found that circumcision is one of the best protections against the disease. Helth experts also advice men to wash their penis thoroughly after sex to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted diseases. This might be a mistake. A South African study of more then 2,500 uncircumcised men found that those who washed immediately after sex increased their risk of HIV infection. The scientists studied washing as an alternative to circumcision and came to their surprising conclusion. The scientists could not explain their results, but speculated that water suspended the HIV virus on the penis, while exposing the penis to vaginal secretions killed the virus. These results don’t make much sense, so continue washing after sex until we have more information. Source - Intertnational AIDS Society meeting 7/25/07
